A glass of water...more than a drink?

Why there's more to getting a glass of water than having a drink...

Morning!

And happy Monday :)

We've been gifted another day <3

I listened to Jeremy Vine on the way home from my pre-op the other week (I know, I know!).

He had a palliative care doctor on his show...talking about the gift of life and the process of death itself.

Did anyone else catch it?

One of the things discussed was an interview with Dennis Potter, recorded with Melvyn Bragg in the last few months of Dennis' life.

You can catch it here if you want to listen. Personally, I found it fascinating and it certainly made me stop in my tracks:

Anyway, this isn't about palliative care or anything related...I just wanted to share my experience.

So...a glass of water...how is it more than a drink?

I’ve recently written about stress and its promotion of visceral fat storage.

Today, I'd like to tell you something else you can do (that's so simple!) to help reduce your visceral fat mass...that I believe everyone (well almost) can do.

It's simply standing up.

We all need to exercise more. That's obvious and I'm not here to bang that drum again.

But regardless of whether we exercise or not, we ALSO need to get off our tushies as frequently as we can...even if we do exercise a lot!!

Simply put, the more time you spend sitting down during the day, the more visceral and total abdominal fat you're likely to have, including around your liver.

Now this is more of an issue for those who don't exercise at all, BUT it's still an issue for those who do...don't forget that!

So if you do exercise already but your job is a sedentary one (I spoke with an IT support lady the other day who barely moved from her desk for 8 hours!) then you need to find ways to get up off your bum!

As always, I never talk about this stuff without some kind of suggestions as to what you can do about it, so here are mine.

If you have a sedentary (sitting) job, find reasons, ANY reasons to move:

Go get a glass of water.

Collect something from the printer.

Take post to reception.

Take phone calls on your feet.

Offer to do the brew round.

Go talk to a colleague instead of emailing them.

Go to the loo...even if you don't need to (actually, the getting a glass of water and this one work well together 😉)

Go somewhere other than your desk for lunch.

Get outside for a break...a 1-minute walk...anything!

Ask for a standing desk (this is a total game changer) - you'll notice your waist get smaller with one of these and if you've back problems, you're onto a winner!

Make a standing desk if you can't buy one...that's what I did before we bought ours...all you need to do is get your keyboard to a higher level somehow.

So there are a few you can think about...I'm sure you can think of more.

But whatever you do...move...get your gorgeous arse out of the seat it stays in for too long.

And get it out frequently.

For the sake of your waistline, for the sake of your back and most importantly, for the sake of your long-term internal health.

I'd love to hear from you on this...who does these things?

Who's found other ways to move if you've a desk job?

What have you found that works for you?
