Spag bol EVERY Monday?

I remember when I was about 13.

I was at an age when my Mum clearly thought I should be a) learning to cook and b) helping out at home.

Fair enough.

So EVERY Monday, when I got home from school, I would cook spag bol for the family.

I can’t remember having a recipe but I do remember how I made it.

Pretty much a standard formula every time.

And it was nice.

Ticked the boxes. Everyone enjoyed it. I learned some cooking skills. Mum had a bit less on her plate.

From what I recall, we had a pretty solid menu all week.

Tuesdays was always the same dish, as were Wednesdays…and so on.

You know, there’s actually a lot of merit in this type of planning.

It’s easy.

You don’t have to think about it.

You know what you need to buy when you go shopping each week.

You know everyone likes what you’re gonna cook.

Everything tastes ‘good enough’ and is pretty nutritious.

The only thing is though…

…it can get a bit boring after a while.

And if the boredom becomes too much, it can then become tempting to drift to other meals.

A ‘ping’ meal here and a takeaway there.

And that’s when things can start to do a bit Pete Tong.

That’s why we share meal ideas at Fit for Life Mums.

We’re sharing breakfasts just now.

I reckon we’ll have about 100 ideas in a few days’ time.

100 different breakfast ideas!!

Now that’s gonna relieve any kinda boredom for a while eh?

I’ve included one of the ideas.

All are tried and tested by the member who nominates it…and it has to be nutritious too of course ;-)

Here’s a dead simple one.

Wouldn’t win any Michelin stars, but IMHO, the best ones never do:

Avocado, Bacon & Eggs

Serves 4

8 Eggs

Knob of butter

8 Rashers of Bacon (grilled or fried), chopped

2 large Avocados (sliced & cubed)

Boil eggs, shell and mash with or without butter or scramble them in some butter & season with salt & pepper.

Mix through the chopped bacon and avocado.

Easy, quick and nutritious!

We’re always finding ways to encourage our members to eat well because ultimately, it’s the biggest driver of a healthy body.

Period.

And keeping the boredom at bay is crucial if we’re going to eat well consistently.

And like I’ve always said, consistency = results.

Always 
